Egg Donor Process

What are Egg Donation Steps?

The egg donation process takes an average of 3 or more months from the time you are matched to retrieval. Egg donation is an incredable experience, and at Fertility Heaven, you will have a dedicated case manager during your journey.

The following are the steps in order of how they happen.

Accessing Egg Donor Profiles

The Intended Parent(s) look through our password protected egg donor database. Sometime intended parent(s) may ask additional questions about a particular egg donor profile. They might have questions for you that they would like us to ask. They may request additional pictures. We’ll work with you to create an ideal egg donor profile. All correspondence will be done through Fertility Heaven Egg Donor & Surrogacy Agency.

Selected As Egg Donor

You’ve been selected to join our agency family as an egg donor after completing your application and passing prescreening testing of your fertility levels.

Confirming Availability

Fertility Heaven Egg Donor & Surrogacy Agency will contact you to verify your availability. You may choose to accept or decline this egg donation cycle. Only accept a match if you are able to commit to the entire process.

Psychological Evaluation

You will be required to undergo a psychological consult with a psychologist who specializes in egg donation. You will be given an MMPI which is the most frequently used clinical personality test. It provides an objective measure of a person’s personality. It also provides information about any potential psychological problems or symptoms that may deem a potential donor inappropriate to proceed with the egg donation process.

Preparation at Fertility Clinic

Now you’re ready to visit the cycling fertility clinic. You will undergo a medical evaluation, including a blood draw, genetic screening, drug screening and infectious disease screening as well as an ultrasound of your ovaries. You’ll meet the doctor for your physical. Once again, the egg donation process as well as all medications will be explained to you by the IVF nurse at the clinic. All of your questions will be answered.

If your health changes before your medical evaluation, it’s important to inform the agency so that we can reschedule your appointment.

Egg Donor Contract

You will have a legal contract between you (the egg donor) and the intended parent(s). An attorney that is paid for by the intended parent(s) for you will go over the entire contract and the egg donation process with you. The contract covers important topics like your commitment, the egg donor compensation, insurance coverage and travel expenses if you’re traveling to the cycling fertility clinic. They will explain the contract to you and answer all of your questions. Before you sign the contract, you can request changes that your attorney can forward to the intended parent’s attorney. Once all parties are in agreement with all terms of the contract you can sign and return to your attorney.

Step by Step Support for Your Egg Donation Cycle

The cycling fertility clinic will now be in charge of the cycle. We’ll hold your hand and guide you through each step of the way. You will receive very specific instructions on all steps required of you by the clinic that you are cycling at. You must take all medications at the appropriate times and be punctual for all appointments. The IVF nurse will give you a lesson on how to correctly administer the medication. You will also be given a calendar fully showing you how the cycle will run.

Cycle Initiation

You will typically start the cycle with birth control pills which is considered a down regulation medication for approximately 8 to 10 days.

Follicle Stimulation Phase

You will then administer follicle stimulating hormones for approximately 5 to 14 days.

Hormone Levels and Follicular Growth Tracking

During this time, donors will have approximately 4 to 8 monitoring appointments at the IVF clinic. At these appointments, you will receive a blood draw to check your hormone levels and an ultrasound to monitor follicular growth.

Final Trigger Injection

A final injection hCG or Lupron will be administered approximately 36 hours prior to retrieval.

Egg Retrieval Process

The egg retrieval will be done at the clinic of the intended parent(s). If the IVF clinic is out of state, you will be required to travel to the IVF clinic 4 to 5 days prior to retrieval for monitoring. You will receive anesthesia. The eggs will be retrieved through an ultrasound-guided needle.

Egg Donor Compensation

When the clinic confirms a success egg retrieval, you will receive your compensation within 5 business days.
